About PasteIndex
Privacy-first text sharing for creators, developers, and everyday users
What is PasteIndex?
PasteIndex is a lightweight, privacy-focused text sharing platform designed for creators, developers, and casual users who need a fast, secure way to publish and share temporary content online. Whether you're dropping a quick note, organizing reference links, sharing a list of resources with colleagues, or securely transmitting sensitive information like API keys or passwords, PasteIndex gives you the tools to do so quickly and anonymously.
Unlike traditional paste tools that store your data in plaintext on remote servers, PasteIndex encrypts your content directly in your browser using industry-standard AES-256-GCM encryption. This means that even we cannot read the content you share — only the person with the decryption key can access it.
Our Mission
We started PasteIndex because we believe that sharing text online should be simple, fast, and private by default. In an era where data breaches are commonplace and AI systems are scraping the open web for training data, we felt it was important to build a tool that puts users in full control of their content. Our mission is to provide the most accessible, privacy-respecting text sharing experience on the web — no sign-ups, no tracking, no data harvesting.
Our Core Values
- Privacy First: We follow a zero-knowledge architecture. When you set a password, encryption happens entirely in your browser. We never see your password, and we never have access to your unencrypted content.
- Simplicity: We believe tools should do one thing and do it exceptionally well. PasteIndex has a clean, distraction-free interface with no unnecessary features or bloated scripts. Creating and sharing a paste takes seconds, not minutes.
- Speed: Every millisecond counts. Our platform is built with performance in mind, using minimal dependencies and optimized code to ensure instant page loads and fast encryption operations.
- Transparency: We are upfront about how our platform works, what data we collect (very little), and how we sustain the service. You can read our complete Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for full details.
- Security: We use battle-tested cryptographic standards including AES-256-GCM, PBKDF2 key derivation with 100,000 iterations, and the native Web Crypto API. Our encryption implementation follows industry best practices used by banks, governments, and security professionals worldwide.
How It Works
PasteIndex works differently from most paste tools. Instead of storing your data on a server, your content is encoded directly into the shareable URL. When you add password protection, the content is encrypted in your browser before the link is generated. The encryption key (your password) never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
You can also set auto-expiry dates on your pastes — ranging from 1 day to 30 days — ensuring that your shared content doesn't linger on the internet indefinitely. Once a paste expires, the data is no longer accessible, providing an additional layer of security.
Who Uses PasteIndex?
PasteIndex serves a diverse community of users who value privacy, security, and simplicity:
- Software Developers: Sharing code snippets, configuration files, API keys, and debugging logs with teammates securely.
- Content Creators: Distributing download links, resource lists, and premium content to subscribers with expiring, protected links.
- Security Professionals: Exchanging sensitive information like passwords, certificates, and vulnerability reports through encrypted channels.
- Students & Educators: Sharing study notes, reference materials, and assignment links in a clean, distraction-free format.
- Everyday Users: Anyone who needs to quickly share text, links, or notes without creating an account or worrying about their data being stored permanently.
Our Blog
We maintain an active Security Blog where we publish in-depth articles about digital privacy, client-side encryption, post-quantum cryptography, metadata protection, and best practices for secure content sharing. Our articles are written by our security team and are designed to educate and inform our community about the evolving landscape of online privacy.
